Whoopi Goldberg Stuns Fans: “I Haven’t Worn a Bra in 50 Years—Here’s Why!” The View Host Opens Up About Her Bold Choice, Sparking Heated Debate on Comfort, Confidence, and Breaking Fashion Taboos—What Made Whoopi Ditch Bras for Good? Her Surprising Reason Leaves Viewers Speechless
Whoopi Goldberg explained on The View May 20 why she hasn’t worn a bra in more than 50 years and then gave a satirical physical demonstration of what it’s like to be her.

Whoopi Goldberg has something she wants to get off her chest.
After her cohosts on The View debated the easiest way to put on a bra during the May 20 episode, the EGOT winner dropped a bombshell.
“I don’t wear a bra,” Whoopi said. “I have not worn a bra in 50 years.”
As she explained, “It’s too uncomfortable. And I don’t mind if they hit the floor. They’re mine.”
The 69-year-old then gave a hilarious demonstration of what it’s like to go braless. “This is what you do. You’re walking and then you go, ‘Hey girl,” she said, before kicking something imaginary off the floor, drawing laughs from her fellow panelists and the audience.
Cohost Sunny Hostin empathized with her choice to go without a bra, saying, “They’re torture devices.”
However, this is not the first time Whoopi has let the truth hang out. Ten years ago, she shared more insight on why she decided to ditch lingerie once and for all.
“I’ve always been uncomfortable in them,” she explained on a 2015 episode of The View. “I could never find one that sat comfortably, and it always killed me in the back. So I just stopped wearing them.”

And bras aren’t the only undergarments Whoopi goes without. Back in 2020, when she and most of her View costars appeared onscreen remotely due to COVID restrictions, Whoopi deadpanned, “I’m not allowed to stand up because I’m actually not wearing any underwear.”

She doubled down three years later on the show while discussing how much underwear should be packed for a trip.
“I don’t wear underwear,” Whoopi said on a 2023 episode, “so it’s not a question I have to think about.”
Ultimately, Whoopi has no problems with a little on-air TMI. After all, there was the time the actress got super risqué with some cheesy innuendo. During a segment on the show last November, she highlighted some of her favorite items alongside cohost Sara Haines, including a giant wheel of cheese imprinted with Whoopi’s face.
“I always wanted my face on cheese,” her costar said, to which Whoopi deadpanned, “I like to be eaten from time to time.”
