Shocking Truth Revealed in “Perfect Half”: This Controversial Must-Watch Exposes How Choosing Who to Love Is a High-Stakes Gamble That Can Destroy Lives, Test Morality, and Force You to Make Unimaginable Sacrifices for Passion, Power, and Forbidden Desire
The important question is not “Is this person good enough?” but “Do I want to keep believing in my feelings?”
The article is inspired by the movie Materialists – Half Perfect (2025).
“I asked why you love me.
Then you… Just love me, that’s the easiest thing in my life.”
Yes, everyone says that love is the easiest thing to do because love is an instinctive journey. We can fall in love because our hearts are vibrating, at first sight, because of an unnamed emotion or whatever other reason makes us want to love.
But when you are more mature, looking at life through a realistic lens, love is no longer the story of the heart’s own. In the midst of a volatile world, each person faces all kinds of pressure from career, economy, age, and social norms,… then love is no longer something to “fall into” but also becomes a problem to be considered.
The movie Materialists – Half Perfect (2025) is a gentle but profound example of that reality. Lucy (played by Dakota Johnson), the heroine, is not a dream girl. She was successful, independent, rational, and was between two choices: one that made her heart flutter, the other that gave her a sense of stability.
Lucy’s story, in a way, is not strange to the love of many young people today.
If we can’t have it all, will we choose what makes us happy or what makes life easier?
In the movie, John (played by Chris Evans) is an imperfect guy. He was Lucy’s ex, who had hurt her, who had not been good enough to keep her. The story between them is constantly quarreling about money.
And Harry (played by Pedro Pascal) – a millionaire who peach flowers has all the standards that Lucy wants. Wealth, kindness, sophistication, willingness to commit to a long-term relationship,… all that Lucy needs in love, Harry has.
The two men are opposite in terms of circumstances and also bring opposite emotions. Being with her ex, Lucy can vibrate without a reason, feel free to say what she thinks. And when she was with Harry, she didn’t have to face any risks, but it meant that… She had no emotions.
That’s when you have to put love on the scale, that safety, stability or someone who makes us vibrate is what you need?
At the age of 20, falling in love is a simple matter. It’s enough to love someone because they make me happy, because they make me forget everything, to make me feel extraordinary. But the bigger it gets, the more love is like a decision: Is this person suitable for your future? Are they financially stable? Do we share the same values of life?…
Everyone must start thinking and becoming more realistic. This is not wrong, but from that moment on, we lose the instinct of unconditional love. The people who make us vibrate are not sure to keep us long. And those who provide a sense of security don’t make us love and be loved.
It is undeniable that today’s young people love more than emotions. Career, finances, education, family background, fame, the ability to be together for a long time – things that may not be love but determine whether a relationship is strong enough to continue.
Many young people share that they choose someone who does not make them fall in love, but makes them peaceful. They say that they need stability and don’t want to enter a relationship just because of love and then lose their way. Sometimes, love in adulthood is like that. There are not many opportunities to be wrong, every mistake is a loss of trust. And at some point, we start to choose the easy, not the right.
It can be said that Materialists put love in the right gray area that many young people are also in today: There is no right, there is no wrong. It’s just whether it’s right or not and who you are at that moment. What is illuminated is the inner self of modern women – who seem to be very strong, rational and independent, but they carry a very instinctive fear: fear of falling in love, fear of failure, fear of being hurt to the point of no longer daring to believe in emotions.
Analyzing, weighing, calculating, and then removing all uncertainty from one’s life is how an adult protects himself. However, that is also how they unconsciously reject real feelings.
Love is not about choosing the best person, but about choosing the person who makes you want to love again
Also in the film, Materialists does not try to force Lucy (and the audience) to make a “right” choice. Movies let things float like the way life usually happens. No one can have it all: a romantic vibe and a sense of absolute security. Choosing anyone is a trade-off. The problem is not with the two men, but with Lucy: what are she willing to trade? What do you want to keep in yourself and let go of what?
Love, after all, is not a sum of reason and emotion. It doesn’t need perfection. It needs someone who doesn’t have to try to be someone else. A person may not bring everything we ever dreamed of, but we can feel at peace with what is inherent in us.
The important question is not “Is this person good enough?” but “Do I want to keep believing in my feelings?”
After all, the person who makes us want to open our hearts again, trust again is the right person. Even if they don’t make my heart beat, nor do they give me a solid financial commitment, I don’t need to pretend to be with them. And perhaps, that’s the most rewarding feeling.
Young people today have a harder time falling in love not because they lack emotion but because they have gone through so many things that make them afraid. That fear makes them choose safety, not real connection. However, love does not operate logically. It is not a problem to find the right answer. It is a process of maturing together. The right person is not someone who makes you feel insecure, but someone who still chooses to stay even when you’re not perfect.
Everyone’s heart vibrates not only because of romantic moments, but because of the enduring presence of someone who always chooses to stay. When you see someone working hard for you, you will feel your own worth in their eyes. It is the feeling of being appreciated, loved, and cherished.
The appearance of a person trying to be with you is what makes the heart flutter more than anything in the world. Maybe they don’t promise you the whole world, but they give you sincerity. They may not be able to give you everything, but they do give you time, attention, and even silent sacrifices. They will do everything to let you know that in this big world, there is someone who has chosen you to give their all their heart.
In the end, the question: “Are we in love or are we making a realistic choice” is not only for Lucy but for all adults who have been in love, have been hurt, have lived rationally to the point of losing the ability to trust emotions.
And if we had to answer, we would probably agree with the gentle message that Materialists send: “Love is not about choosing the best person, but about choosing the person who makes you want to love again.”
Because no one will be perfect in all aspects or converge everything we expect. A person who both makes our heart flutter and brings an absolute sense of certainty about money and status must accompany us for a long time and make us live as ourselves. That person probably doesn’t exist.
When we choose to love, no matter who it is, it will come with a trade-off. It may be giving up strong emotions in exchange for peace. It may be accepting insecurities to hold on to an unnamed connection. Or sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone to fall in love with someone who doesn’t follow any of the plans we have mapped out beforehand. And we are forced to be honest with ourselves: “What are we willing to trade and what are we willing to keep in order to move on with the same person?”
