The human remains that washed ashore near Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island home have been identified.

PEOPLE previously reported on the remains that were found in the Watch Hill neighborhood of Westerly, R.I., on Wednesday, May 14, not far from the singer’s seaside mansion, dubbed “Holiday House.”

In a press release from the South Kingstown Police Department issued on Friday, June 13, officials confirmed that the remains belonged to Eric Wein, 31, of Massachusetts.

“The South Kingstown Police Department has been notified by the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners that the human remains that washed ashore on May 14, 2025, in Westerly, Rhode Island, have been positively identified as belonging to Mr. Eric Wein,” the release states.

It also notes that Wein’s vehicle was found in South Kingstown on Thursday, April 10, and he was officially reported missing on Friday, April 18.

South Kingstown law enforcement worked with the Mansfield, Mass. police department and the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners in their investigation, which has now “formally concluded,” per the release.

“No foul play is suspected. We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wein’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement concludes.

PEOPLE has reached out to the South Kingstown Police Department and the Mansfield Police Department. The Westerly Police Department and the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners had no further comment.

In May, Westerly, R.I., police confirmed to PEOPLE that officers found “what appeared to be a human leg bone” on Everett Avenue in Watch Hill around 9:30 a.m.

The remains were transported to the Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiners for analysis, and police noted that no foul play was suspected at the time.

Following the discovery, a Westerly resident, Taylor Day, who had been near the scene told local news outlet NBC10 WJAR, “It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly,” She also noted the scene’s proximity to Swift’s landmark mansion, as well as the area’s most famous historic hotel.

“It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift’s house and the Ocean House,” Day told the outlet at the time. “I would never expect anything like that — especially not in Watch Hill.”

Swift’s 1920s property, also known as High Watch, overlooks East Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. It was formerly owned by Standard Oil heiress Rebekah West Harkness, who inspired Swift’s song, “The Last Great American Dynasty” on her 2020 album Folklore.

The Grammy-winning artist has hosted a star-studded guest list at the property — especially at her famous Fourth of July parties — including Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, the Haim sisters, and Selena Gomez.

Swift reportedly purchased her home in 2013 for $17.75 million, according to The New York Times. Watch Hill is known for its Victorian-style homes and for offering its residents a “strong sense of privacy,” per the outlet.
