Jon Bon Jovi Calls Music Industry ‘Bullsh—‘ For Signing Bands Sound Like Bon Jovi And Guns N’ Roses
In a recent interview with George Stroumboulopoulos, Jon Bon Jovi criticized the music industry.
“The industry that I had bought into and helped to make money… were then signing 10 other bands that either sounded like Bon Jovi or Guns N’ Roses. That was bullsh*t by that point. The third and fourth generations of that were just sh*t. And they needed to be kicked out.”
Bon Jovi also shared his views on the music industry in a chat with virginradio.co.uk at the UK premiere of ‘Thank You, Goodnight.’ “For kids today, it’s just different,” Jon said when asked if he thinks new artists can reach the same level of success he had.The frontman continued, “It’s not better, it’s not worse, it’s different. Unfortunately, they have to have more social media presence or likes before that same A&R guy is going to sign them to a record deal, which breaks my heart.”
“There’s also a kid out there who’s as crazy as me that went to the radio stations like ‘the hell with the record company, I’ll go right to the source,’” Jon added. “There’s going to be creative thinkers out there. They’re going to forge your own path.”Earlier this year, he also spoke with People about having his 40th year in the music industry, sharing, “I was willing to outwork everybody — I think that’s what it came down to.”
Bon Jovi also noted, “I definitely wasn’t the best at anything. I was just the hardest working, and it was nothing more than the desire to get better every day.”Jon has had vocal problems for a few years and it isn’t clear if he’ll continue performing. He previously said he wants to retire if he can’t sing well.
“The industry that I had bought into and helped to make money…were then signing 10 other bands that either sounded like Bon Jovi or Guns N Roses.
That was bulls**t by that point. The third and fourth generations of that were just sh**t. And they needed to be kicked out.”
