Jamal Roberts Stuns America With Daring Post-Idol Decision—Fans in Frenzy as Shocking Move Sends Social Media Into Meltdown! Did the Idol Sensation Just Change His Career Forever? Inside the Secret Announcement That Has Everyone Talking—What’s Next for the Breakout Star Who Refuses to Play It Safe?
Just weeks after winning American Idol Season 23, Jamal Roberts isn’t slowing down. The 27-year-old soul singer from Meridian, Mississippi, is already making waves on the gospel charts and preparing for his first public concert since being crowned the show’s first Black male winner in 22 years.
Roberts’ debut single “Heal” has soared to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart, a remarkable start for the former gym teacher whose emotional performances captivated millions across the nation. And now, fans will have a chance to experience that passion live.
Jamal Roberts to Perform at Bee More Summer Festival
According to a June 2 announcement on Facebook, Roberts is set to perform at the Bee More Summer Festival in Atmore, Alabama. The free, family-friendly event will take place on June 14 at Boxcar Willie (207 W. Ridgeley St.), and is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Roberts hitting the stage at 4 p.m.
“Come on down and experience his incredible talent live, and see one of the nation’s rising stars in our very own town!” the festival’s organizers wrote.
Atmore’s interim mayor, Shawn Lassiter, shared his enthusiasm with AL.com, saying, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our community and folks visiting Atmore to come together and enjoy world-class entertainment right here at Boxcar Willie. His performance will undoubtedly be a highlight of the day.”
Fans echoed that excitement on social media. “This is awesome!!!!” one Facebook user commented. “Can’t wait to see you!!” added another. Many simply responded with: “Omg!!!”
Roberts Confirms Collaboration With Jelly Roll
As if a chart-topping debut and festival performance weren’t enough, Roberts is also working on a highly anticipated musical collaboration with genre-blending country-rap star Jelly Roll.
In an interview with Gold Derby, Roberts confirmed the two artists are already in the studio. “Yeah, we’re already working on that now, we’re working on some stuff as we speak,” he shared. “We’re going to have something coming soon.”
The connection between the two began during American Idol’s Hawaii round, when Roberts stunned audiences with his heartfelt rendition of Jelly Roll’s hit “Liar.” Moved by the performance, Jelly Roll told Roberts, “Man, that wasn’t a performance, you were testifying … I think you represent a group of misrepresented people. Man, you got it, Jamal.”
The bond only grew stronger as Roberts opened up about his difficult childhood — including feeling abandoned by his mother — and his mission to inspire others through music. Mentored by both Jelly Roll and Ashanti during the season, Roberts quickly became a voice for the voiceless.
A Star Rising With Purpose
Roberts, now a father of three girls, is channeling both pain and purpose into his music — and fans are responding. His raw honesty, powerful voice, and unshakable faith have made him one of the most compelling Idol winners in years.
With his Bee More Summer Festival performance, a Jelly Roll collaboration on the way, and a growing presence on gospel charts, it’s clear that Jamal Roberts’ journey is just beginning.
