Sometimes, Mariah Carey is a woman of few words.
As recent paparazzi footage of the pop icon, 56, makes the rounds on social media, fans of the singer are loving the simple — and nonchalant — response Carey had when asked about Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos’ Venice wedding.
After someone asked the star how her Fourth of July weekend was, another inquired about the high-profile June 27 nuptials in the clip, which was shared by a TikTok account dedicated to paparazzi videos on July 7.
“What did you think about Jeff Bezos’s wedding?” someone asked as the star walked — sunglasses on, flanked by security — to a vehicle.
Her response? “I wasn’t there.”

The same person then followed up, asking, “Were you not invited or what?” — and Carey was not here for the attempted pot-stirring.
“Oh, don’t turn this into that,” she replied.
In the comments of the original TikTok, fans loved the star’s reaction to the paparazzi, praising her for the “nonchalant” response and display of “neutrality.”
Others couldn’t help but think of another blunt Carey response still referenced in pop culture today: “I don’t know her.”
“She [doesn’t] know him,” one user wrote, and another added, “I was waiting for her to say…… I don’t know them 😂😂😂😂😂.”
“I don’t know her” was Carey’s iconic response when asked about another pop star, Jennifer Lopez, in an early 2000s TV interview. The four-word quip was not only iconic at the time, but has also persisted as a meme well into the 2020s — and both Carey and Lopez, 55, have acknowledged the moment over the years.

When Lopez appeared on The Wendy Williams Show in 2016, the “Fantasy” singer came up in conversation, prompting the host to ask, “Who?” in a not-so-subtle callback to Carey’s iconic quip.
“No, I’m playing, ‘cause that’s what Mariah said about Jennifer one time. I’m not trying to start anything,” Wendy Williams told the audience, earning laughter from both the crowd and Lopez.
“She does say that,” the “On The Floor” musician joked back. “She’s forgetful, I guess. I don’t know. We’ve met many times. I don’t know, I don’t know her that well.”
Also in 2016, Andy Cohen had Carey play a game inspired by the quip — aptly titled “Does! She! Know! Her!?” — while the pop star appeared on an episode of Watch What Happens Live.
“I think you’re forgetting I’m forgetful,” the “Emotions” songstress joked on the talk show.
