A historic moment
It’s that infamous time of year again when we collectively hold our breath as we find out which TV series — and their stars, writers and directors — are in the running for awards. For every buzz-worthy show that made the cut, you can bet there are plenty of shockers that have us puzzled, too.
The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, as “Running Point” actor Brenda Song and “What We Do in the Shadows” star Harvey Guillén revealed which shows and stars captured the Television Academy’s attention over the past year. The drama category was stacked, with notable shows like “Severance,” “The White Lotus,” “The Last of Us,” “The Diplomat,” “The Pitt” and “Paradise” earning nominations.Meanwhile, the comedy category had its usual nominees, “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “Only Murders in the Building,”“The Bear” (rolls eyes), as well as new contenders in “Nobody Wants This” and “The Studio.”
As usual, this year’s nominees leave us with much to discuss as we approach the 77th Emmy Awards, which airs live on Sept. 14 with comedian Nate Bargatze hosting. Below, HuffPost’s culture team breaks down all the snubs, surprises and upsets in real-time.
