ELON MUSK DECLARES WAR ON CONVENTION: TESLA TO HIT $30 TRILLION VALUE—NO ELECTRIC CARS NEEDED!
Elon Musk is angry, and this is said to be a good sign for Tesla.
In recent days, the WSJ said that Elon Musk is like a man who feels he is being treated unfairly.
After quietly leaving the White House with a look of disappointment, he became particularly sensitive. Angry at being likened to a fascist. Angry that some people used his political views as an excuse to attack Tesla. Angry that he was under scrutiny.
This is not new. Musk has long carried a huge “lump” on his shoulders – nourished by the hurt, disdain, and skepticism rampant on social media.
But history has shown that this can create a violent force: Elon is angry. Like the Blue Giant Hulk ripping off his clothes and going crazy, Musk is usually silent before exploding. These days, it seemed that he was boiling again, his eyes showed a look of anger, and his vision was red with anger.
And an angry Elon could be a good thing for Tesla investors. It can make him focus on enforcement, on proving people wrong. An Elon determined to be able to send humans into space, can make electric vehicles a major trend.
But investors have not seen Elon “implement” anything for a long time.
Instead, they saw promises of a low-cost Tesla model that could help sell 20 million vehicles a year seem to have been abandoned. They saw Cybertruck fail. They saw company profits shrink and sales fell for the first time in more than a decade.
Things make investors worried, fearing that Musk has been too distracted by Washington politics. Even board members seem uneasy.
But fans who believe in the power of an angry Elon find a glimmer of hope from signs over the past week that he may be making a comeback. First, through a video conference at the conference in Qatar on Tuesday, Musk successively gave harsh answers to concerns about the situation of his companies.
When asked when he will turn Tesla around, the CEO replied: “Everything has turned around.”
What is the evidence that Musk gives? Basically, that’s the familiar answer from Tesla fans on social media: “Look at the stock price, buddy!”
Since Musk announced on April 22 that he would reduce his time in the Trump administration, Tesla shares have risen 43%. This brings the electric vehicle manufacturer back to a rare position with a valuation of more than $1 trillion. However, for the whole year, the stock is still down 11% and down 29% from its all-time high.
Analysts estimate that Tesla car sales will end this year with a decrease compared to 2024. This is a reversal from just a few months ago, when they also expected this year’s sales to increase compared to last year.
Musk’s vision of Tesla’s future is not limited by the boredom of selling electric cars. Instead, the future he is aiming for is to usher in a new era of robots – self-driving cars and humanoid robots. Over the past decade or so, Musk has repeatedly asserted that the day when Tesla’s self-driving cars appear is near. Meanwhile, Alphabet’s Waymo and Amazon’s Zoox have launched fully autonomous cars on public streets.
On Tuesday, in his second public appearance, this time on CNBC, Musk continued to emphasize that Tesla is still on track to begin deploying self-driving cars in Austin, Texas by the end of June.
According to him, the plan will start with about 10 cars on the road in the first week, then dozens more per week and could reach 1,000 in just a few months. He added that by the end of next year, hundreds of thousands of self-driving Teslas — if not more than a million — will be put into service.
In an interview with CNBC, when questioned about his recent results in Washington, Musk was furious: “Why attack this, when we’ve made so much progress?”
Despite his efforts to defend DOGE-related efforts, Musk also began to emphasize that he was gradually withdrawing from politics, after realizing that Congress was not very interested in cutting spending. “I have come to the conclusion — perhaps the obvious — that boosting GDP growth is essential,” he tweeted on Friday. “@DOGE has done and will continue to do a good job of delaying the day America defaults, but government extravagance means that only breakthrough improvements in productivity can save the country.”
And his solution is robots.
Seeing the silhouette of “angry Elon” excited his supporters, in the same way that “optimistic Elon” inspired nearly a year ago at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting. His enthusiasm — dancing on stage — seems to indicate that he has really refocused after more than a year of being distracted by the Twitter acquisition.
After shareholders re-approved his huge compensation package, Musk stood on stage painting a bright vision for Tesla — filled with humanoid robots and self-driving cars. He thinks that could help bring the company’s value beyond the $30 trillion mark.
Now, supporters who are expecting an “angry Elon” are ready to take real action.
“Elon’s wartime mentality has been activated,” a well-known X account called Autism Capital posted after Musk appeared at the conference in Qatar. Others have the same opinion. “Elon is in wartime CEO mode,” a social media account wrote on Wednesday. “He’s no longer joking. The whole focus is now on enforcement.”
Tesla was founded on a seemingly unrealistic idea: Turning electric vehicles into something attractive and popular. For most of its existence, Tesla has always faced skepticism that it will not be able to succeed. And Musk is the one who convinces investors and customers that that vision is completely feasible.
He just needs to execute. And when it was successfully implemented, everything changed completely. Tesla reached a turning point in late 2019 and 2020, steadily becoming profitable and cementing Musk’s image as one of the most successful entrepreneurs of this generation.
Of course, success in the past does not guarantee future success.
Even Tesla’s global leadership in the electric vehicle sector is being threatened by Chinese rivals such as BYD. Last month, BYD surpassed Tesla in sales in Europe for the first time.
Musk – who has long praised his Chinese rivals – said he was not interested in the sales race. “I really don’t think much about the rivals,” Musk said on CNBC. “I just think about making the most perfect products possible.”
He just needs to execute.
