Country Superstar Luke Combs Confesses to Shocking Parenting Struggles—Admits, “I Didn’t Know What a Bassinet Was!”
Luke Combs is known for his chart-topping hits and undeniable talent in the country music world, but recently, the singer has been adjusting to a new role: fatherhood. The 34-year-old artist has been open about the challenges and surprises of raising his two young sons with his wife, Nicole Hocking.
Combs, who welcomed his first son, Tex Lawrence Combs, in June 2022, and his second son, Beau Lee Combs, in August 2023, recently appeared at the Grand Ole Opry and shared candidly about the realities of parenting.
“I’m a little nervous,” Combs admitted, acknowledging the overwhelming responsibility of fatherhood. “I got a lot of stuff to do. I got a lot on my plate… I’m uncovering things every day.” As any parent knows, the journey into fatherhood is filled with new experiences, and for Combs, it’s been a steep learning curve. “I’m buying all kinds of clothes I didn’t know existed,” he laughed, describing how he’s constantly learning about new baby essentials.
One of the most surprising discoveries for Combs? The bassinet. “I didn’t know what a bassinet was. But that’s a thing, apparently. A lot of new words I’m learning,” he shared with a chuckle, clearly finding humor in the moments of confusion that come with raising little ones. For a man whose world once revolved around touring, recording, and performing, fatherhood has introduced a completely new set of challenges.
While Combs may feel out of his element at times, he’s also reaching out for guidance, especially from fellow parents. “It’s more like, ‘What do I need to be doing right now?’” he joked, revealing the type of questions he’s been asking. He quickly learned that, at least in the early stages, his role was more about providing support than being the primary caregiver. “I realized the baby just doesn’t need me at all. I’m just there to clean stuff… It comes out and it’s like, ‘Why are you mouth breathing all over me? I don’t need you to be around,’” Combs humorously shared, capturing the humorous, yet humbling, nature of being a new parent.
Luke Combs’ honesty and humor about fatherhood have resonated with fans who are familiar with the realities of raising children. It’s clear that while parenting may be a new and unfamiliar world for Combs, he’s embracing it with his signature blend of humility and laughter. As he navigates the ups and downs of fatherhood, his fans are cheering him on, excited to see him tackle this new chapter in his life—just as he has with his music career.
Fatherhood may be a whole new world, but with his two boys, Combs is ready to take it on with all the love and humor he’s known for.
