Cody Johnson is going to be a father again!
The country music superstar, 37, announced at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards that his and wife Brandi’s family is growing by one as the pair are expecting their third baby.
“We’re having a little boy! We decided to make this our announcement to the world and our gender reveal as well,” Johnson tells PEOPLE exclusively of the happy reveal, though he did not specify when the baby is due.
As for how he hopes his daughters, Clara Mae and Cori, respond to being older sisters, the star adds, “My girls .. you can’t beat my girls, I love my two girls with all my heart. They’re 10 and 8, Clara and Cori, and I think I’m excited to watch them help raise this little boy.”
Ultimately, Johnson feels he’s “a lot better off now as far as career and financially, than I was when we had [Clara and Cori] … He’s gonna get a horse a little quicker than my kids did. He’s going to get to do some things a little quicker than my daughters did.”
When asked if he always hoped that he would become a boy dad, Johnson quickly responds, “Yes,” through laughter, adding, “I didn’t care if this one was a boy or a girl, but I was pretty happy when I saw the gender reveal.”
The singer and his wife have been married for over a decade, having first met as teenagers. The duo welcomed their first daughter, Clara, in 2015, and went on to further expand their family with the birth of their second daughter, Cori, in 2017.
The singer previously told PEOPLE Now that regardless of whether his youngsters choose to pursue music like their father in the future, he plans to “encourage my girls to do whatever they want to do.”
“I don’t want them to feel like they have to go into the music business because I’ve been in it,” he added at the time. “I want them to be able to chase their dreams with the same amount of passion that I’ve chased mine. Whatever that may be. I’m gonna support them 100 percent.”
Johnson, who is up for Entertainer of the Year at the show, also tells PEOPLE at the 2025 ACMs that winning the award would be a “culmination of my entire career’s hard work. And not just mine, but all of the people God has placed around me. From my band, my crew, my management, label, producers, engineers, musicians … all of em.”
“I think it’s the one I want the most, selfishly. But here’s the thing, if I don’t get it, I’ll just go work for the next one,” he further quips.
The 60th Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Reba McEntire, are streaming live on Prime Video from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
