After the wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and former reporter Lauren Sanchez over the weekend, Vogue published a photo shoot and conversation during the bride’s final wedding dress fitting in Milan in early June. The 55-year-old former journalist revealed that she felt like a “princess” when she tried on a custom-designed Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress. “The feeling is stronger than I thought,” she said.
Lauren Sanchez said Jeff Bezos begged to see the wedding dress in advance but she wanted to keep it a secret. “I almost agreed,” she admitted. “But I want it to be a surprise. When you’re a little older, there’s not much left to surprise you. I can’t wait to see his expression.”
The body-hugging white lace dress with a wide flared fishtail inspired by Sophia Loren’s wedding dress in the 1958 movie “Houseboat” took 900 hours to work in the tailor’s workshop of the Italian luxury fashion house. According to Vogue, the former American journalist began planning the wedding dress a year and a half ago, during a dinner at designer Domenico Dolce’s New York apartment overlooking the Hudson River.
Jeff Bezos’ bride revealed that an 11-minute flight into space in April changed her perspective on wedding dresses. “It went from ‘I want a modern, simple and sexy dress’ to ‘I want something that evokes the moment’ and where I am right now. I’m a different person than I was five years ago,” Lauren Sanchez said.
The Amazon boss’s fiancée revealed that the two have followed some traditional wedding etiquette such as the groom not being able to meet the bride before the wedding day. Lauren Sanchez said she borrowed Dolce & Gabbana’s diamond earrings to wear on her wedding day.
The wedding of the powerful couple has become the most interesting event over the past month. In addition to the names of the bride and groom, the all-star guests also attracted attention. However, the bride Lauren Sanchez said the wedding was “extremely private” with 70 relatives out of 200 guests. Designer Stefano Gabbana told Vogue: “She wanted to have a very classic and elegant wedding. She doesn’t want to do something too flashy.”
During the wedding, Lauren Sanchez was led into the hall by her sons Nikko and Evan. Her 17-year-old daughter, Ella, plays the role of honorary bridesmaid. According to Vogue, Ella also wore a Dolce & Gabbana outfit and gave a speech at the ceremony. “Ella is very individual, always living in her own way. She had never tried on clothes before and she liked it very much. She’s going to look amazing. Preparing costumes for all the kids was really fun,” Lauren Sanchez told Vogue.
The Amazon founder and former journalist 5 years younger got married in Venice after two years of engagement. This is the second marriage of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. Both also had their own children before marriage.
